THINGS WE DO FOR MONEY

She glances at the sky and heads into the night

She walks the streets alone under lamps of reddish light

Sells herself cheap co’s she’s lost her self-esteem

Faking sounds of pleasure when really she could scream

What she does she sees just as work

Like stacking shelves or being a filing clerk

If she gets through the night without harm it’s a perk

Chorus

They say money talks but has no voice

They say it gives you power, gives you choice

The things people do for money seems so funny

He checks them to their cells and locks every door

A dreary night in prospect as he starts his shift once more

Herding men to dinner, counting them like Sheep

Watching while they’re waiting, watching while they sleep

He’s forgotten who’s the con and who’s the screw

He feels like a prisoner on review

Retirement or escape at the end he wish he knew

Money’s with us everyday

We need its power to make our way

It’s in our lives and here to stay, come what may

She heads the group sessions, urging them to talk

Then one to one with patients, listening while they walk

Searching troubled minds, exploring psychic maps

Chancing with their sanity, hoping they won’t snap

She hasn’t time for problems of her own

The job travels with her to her home

At work she spends her time in a crowd but feels alone

Chorus

So funny

It’s only money

ONE OF THESE DAYS          AM

Maybe I could fly to heaven

Sail the stars on a golden ship

Maybe I could sing with angels

Buy a ticket for a two-way trip

Maybe I could tell your fortune

Fill your fingers with diamond rings

Maybe you could find contentment

Maybe you could dance with kings

Chorus

One day I might climb a rainbow

One day I could stand up tall

One day I could bring you with me

One day we could have it all

One of these days, One of these Days,

One of these days, One of these Days,

Maybe I could build an empire

Put you on a gilded throne

Maybe we could see tomorrow

See it happen in a wishing stone

Maybe the earth will stop spinning

Maybe there’s no more sky

Maybe it’s all for nothing

Maybe the sun will die

Maybe we will live forever

Maybe I could learn to fly

Maybe you could say you’re sorry

Maybe you could learn to lie

One of these days (I might climb a rainbow)

One of these days (I might stand up tall)

One of these days (I could bring you with me)

One of these days (We could have it all)

Repeat

THE HALLS OF VALHALLA

I’ve been seeking and searching over and under

For paradise, heaven and places of wonder

But always I hear whispers of the northern sky

I’ve asked men of the cloth, prophets and priests

Clerics and Shaman from west to the east

But still I hear whispers of the northern sky

I’m looking for answers for someone to tell me

Where have I come from, what is my destiny?

Is there any truth in the whispers of the northern sky?

There do I see everything before me

The wind sweeps away the clouds of uncertainty

There do I find the answers to the questions of my heart

Bridge

There do I see my father and my mother

There do I see my sisters and my brothers

There is the line of my family back to the start

Chorus

In the Halls of Valhalla we will all live together

In the Halls of Valhalla together forever

The Halls of Valhalla are bidding me welcome home

I hear stories of ships that sail to the sun

Of mighty men and heroes, deeds that are done

So now I journey to the northern sky

I hear whispers of Odin, a house of immortality

Twelve fierce maidens, true perpetuality

Forwards I journey to the northern sky

I leave all behind me, the symbols of my past

On last voyage, forwards, straight and fast

On wards I journey to the northern sky

Bridge

Chorus

  Chorus

SHE’S NOT HOME TODAY

She held court, they all came to worship

She has them all at the end of her fingertips

She cared for nothing, she didn’t need anyone

She thought of love as a tool to have some fun

Bridge

Rejection came and it ripped her heart away

She withdrew to a life of disarray

Thus began her fall from grace

Her life now an empty space

Chorus

Her mind swims in dark, lonely places

All she sees is pale hollow faces

The spark is gone, the light it has faded

Her world is now empty and shaded

She’s not home today

Her mind is far away

She’s not home today

She’s not home today

She captured hearts, then reduced them to nothingness

Disdain for others, a product of her selfishness

She lost her heart to someone who didn’t care for her

He did the damage, then fled just like a saboteur

Bridge

Chorus

  Chorus

HYPOCRITES BALL

There’s a soap box and a shaken hand

A world of hope built on shifting sand

Get on your knees, here’s a full cup

You take a sip, well its bottoms up

There’s a long table and a rising chart

It’s the fifth floor full of cold hearts

Bridge

We circle high just to pick the bones

We tread lightly over sticks and stones

I need more room; I need to keep my space

Excuse me mister but you’re in my place

Chorus

A warm welcome to one and all

Choose your partners for the Hypocrite’s Ball

We’re glad you’re here, glad you heard the call

Mark your cards for the Hypocrite’s Ball

Stand in line to creep and crawl

There’s no dancing at the Hypocrite’s Ball

You’re not too large or not too small

To take your place at the Hypocrite’s Ball

Complete a form and you sign your name

There’s a long queue and you state your claim

Take a clean page and print a half truth

Who needs fact, who needs proof?

Take a black book and an oath sworn

A cause to serve and a cause to scorn

Bridge

Chorus

  Chorus

MIRROR ON THE WALL

Good morning friend, welcome to another new day

With you in my life I’ll take whatever comes my way

It’s good to see you, you look very well

You have a mystical magical spell

Tell me of tomorrow

Tell me of your sorrow

Chorus

Mirror on the wall, tell me what you see

Mirror on the wall, tell me what will be

I look in the mirror but all I see is me

I look in the mirror but all I see is me

Good evening friend, I’ve missed your familiar face

The thought of you and I hurry back to this place

We talk in silence, we converse with our eyes

We have no secrets, no need to tell lies

Tell me of tomorrow

Tell me of your sorrow

Chorus

Refrain

Looking through a portal to a private domain

Drawn to an inner vision time and again

A window of reflection showing pleasure and pain

Can you see through me?

Do you see what I see?

Good night old friend, parting is such sweet sorrow

Try not to fret, I’ll see you first thing tomorrow

One last look to take to my sleep

One last thought or a secret to keep

Tell me of tomorrow

Tell me of your sorrow

Chorus

                           I see a fantasy, I see a mystery (mystery!)

I SOLD MY SOUL

I had the chance to reach for the sky

But I was caught by the serpent’s eye

He showed me things I have never seen

I was hypnotized, I was caught in between

He led me down with an invisible hand

He told me things I didn’t understand

Bridge

His eyes were deep, full of darkness and fire

He showed me everything my heart desired

Chorus

I sold my soul, my pride as well

Now I’ve nothing else left to sell

My price was high but I sold it cheap

Now I’ve nothing else left to keep

I sold my soul

I sold my soul

His voice was sweet, full of magic and wonder

His whisper soft, I was sinking under

He promised much, I was dazzled and mystified

I should have turned to consult and to rectify

He told me virtue was a fool’s paradise

Love and honor, a vain sacrifice

Bridge

Chorus

His smile was bright, reflecting malevolence

His fangs were sharp, consuming my innocence

Bridge

Chorus

Ooooh, I sold my soul

Ooooh, I sold my soul

WONDERFUL PLACE

What is this place that everyone’s been looking for?

Where is this place that has no roof or door?

Shangri-La, Babylon, Paradise, Avalon

I’ve heard of this place that has no sea or shore

I dream of this wonderful place

I’m searching for this wonderful place

Is there such a wonderful place?

This place is somewhere that others have already been

A place to find but with eyes that cannot be seen

The Sunken City, the Golden Shrine, The Lost Ark, King Solomon’s Mines

I’ve asked many people but they don’t know what I mean

I hope to find this wonderful place

I want to see this wonderful place

I’ll keep on looking for this wonderful place

A mundane day, I was in no particular place

It was there that I first came upon your smiling face

You looked at me with the sun in your eyes

A look from you and I was hypnotized

It was there I was caught in your warm embrace

I stumbled into a wonderful place

You drew me in with your open arms

You enveloped me with your golden charms

I knew I’d found this wonderful place

With you I’m in a wonderful place

I’ve never been to this place before

I’d like to stay here forever more

I won’t leave this wonderful place

Love is such a wonderful place X3

Love is such a wonderful place (it’s wonderful) X3

HE DIDN'T CALL ON ME

I never see him there when the pushers take their money

He’s not around to comment when the hookers call you honey

I’ve never seen him present when the jackals think it’s funny

I wonder why, look to the sky

He always calls around when the silver bells are ringing

He’s usually right behind when our hearts feel like singing

When there’s good news around you can probably find him mingling

I wonder why, look to the sky

Chorus

Don’t talk to me about hoping

Don’t talk to me about faith

Don’t talk to me about believing

He didn’t call on me, he didn’t call on me

He didn’t pay a visit when Hitler’s boys were lying

He didn’t raise his head when the shells and bombs were flying

He didn’t show himself when the innocents were dying

I wonder why, look to the sky

He always says hello when the girls are dressed in white

He’s always there in person when the time seems just right

He’s always at the doorstep when the darkness turns to light

I wonder why, look to the sky

Chorus

Was his TV off when the tutsi’s were all pleading?

Was he out of town when the victim’s were all bleeding?

Was he out to lunch when the starving should be feeding?

I wonder why, look to the sky

He’s out every year when nature starts its growing

He’s there on the spot when beauty has its showing

He usually gets the credits when the praise starts a-flowing

I wonder why, look to the sky

Chorus

He didn’t call on me

He didn’t call, he didn’t call

He didn’t call on me,

He didn’t call on me

Repeat

LAST NIGHT

My heart stopped a beat when she walked in the room

A light in my darkness, she lifted the gloom

Did we once meet in a life long before

A feeling of déjà vu as she walked through the door

Time stood still, no one else was there

The minute our eyes met she answered my prayer

My innermost feelings came up from my heart

Exploded from my body and hit her like a dart

Bridge

Last night just couldn’t be true

Last night was the first time I knew

Last night I saw without eyes

Last night was such a surprise

Chorus

Before last night I didn’t know love could exist

Before last night I didn’t know what I had missed

Before last night I didn’t know I was alive

Now without love I don’t think I can survive

She took me to a world of ecstasy and bliss

I didn’t know there was a place such as this

Spiritual metamorphosis, the boy in me shorn

A night to remember, a new man born

Last night my old life departed

I’ve been to that holy place where all life is started

I went out looking for warmth and affection

I came back complete with my own resurrection

Bridge

Chorus

Last night, last night, last night, last night

  Chorus

I WOULDN'T GO BACK

I look back on my travels; I’ve sailed on the seven seas

I remember the forests, the sunsets and the summer breeze

Sunrise on the desert and moonlight on an artic bay

But I wouldn’t go back if it changed where I am today

Heard the song of the whales, it sounded like an angel’s choir

Seen shooting stars and rainbows, tidal waves and mountains on fire

Seen things so amazing, been frozen with wonder and fear

But I wouldn’t go back if it was anywhere else but here

Chorus

I wouldn’t go back

I wouldn’t go back

Shared a meal under starlight with descendents of ancient kings

I’ve seen so many places; I’ve felt at times I must have wings

I’ve joined with the brothers; been blinded by the sacred vow

But I wouldn’t go back if it was any other time but now

Chorus

Felt a ghostly presence at the shrine of a Mayan god

Been to high lonely places where no other foot has trod

Seen the sun go black with the flight of a million birds

Seen colours of the sky that couldn’t be described in words

Chorus

I’ve known rich and famous, poor people and those unknown

Friends so kind they would give you anything they own

I’ve met people so wondrous but one thing I know is true

I wouldn’t go back if it was anyone else but you

Chorus

  Chorus

TIME AND TIDE

Azure skies, seagull cries in the morning

Seas no blue, sparkling due in the morning

Life was pure, life was sure

Fields so green, leaves that sheen in warm sunlight

Rolling hills, trees so still in pale moonlight

I was there, god I swear

Time was fine, time was mine

Bridge

What is time?

Time’s a thief, time’s so brief

Time’s a trick, time goes quick

Chorus

Time and tide won’t stand aside, it won’t wait

Time and tide won’t stand aside, it’s not late

Time and tide won’t wait beside me or you

Time and tide won’t wait, it just passes through

Crashing waves, fires in caves by an ocean

Nights that sing, winds that ring without motion

Time that shone, now they’re gone

Seas that roar, empty shores, lonely daylight

Cloudless moons, silent dunes, silver starlight

Life was free, I couldn’t see

Time was fine, time was mine

Bridge

Chorus

Chorus ext:

Time and tide won’t hear your cry, it won’t slow

Time and tide won’t hear your cry, it just goes

FROM THE ALBUM 'FOR OUR SINS' 2006

JUST SEE THROUG H MY EYES

You walk in wet, grey mornings

Not heeding all the warnings

The words, they pass straight through you

The sounds are dull and hazy

Your speech is slow and lazy

The world just goes by you

Your veins are bruised and battered

A fix is all that matters

You’re craving has taken over you

Your life is just a crime

A pointless waste of time

The chance is right in front of you

Chorus

Just see through my eyes

Just open your eyes

You might be surprised

It’s not too late, it’s not too late

It’s not too late to see

What’d you see with those eyes?

Looking down when you’re high

Do you tell yourself lies to see, to be?

Your eyes are red and faded

Your limbs are thin and jaded

A deathly aura follows you

Your friends avoid you coming

Reduced to beg and bumming

Your family have disowned you

All things to you seem slower

You think you can’t get lower

Your dignity has deserted you

You see yourself as surplus

You need a sense of purpose

A chance at life is there for you

Chorus

Just see through my eyes, just see through my eyes

Just see through my eyes

NEON BLUE

The shining light in a baby’s eyes

The pure delight in a summer’s sky

The sapphire wings of a butterfly

The ocean sheen of mid July

I love its hue, whether it’s dark or it’s light

I love its tint if it’s pastel or bright

I need its colour in a plant or a flower

To me it’s always a symbol of power

Bridge

Once the world was sullen and somber

Then I saw and awoke from my slumber

A colour so perfect, flawless and true

Chorus

There in the darkness shining

Its colour so stark and defining

There in the darkness, Neon Blue, Neon Blue

It stills and it calms my emotions

It has and it holds my devotions

A light in the darkness, Neon Blue, Neon Blue, Neon Blue

The rising sun, it’s the dawning of day

The summer comes with its brilliant array

I look up and all that I see

Its life’s colour is everything to me

I love the change from dusk until darkness

All its shades are enchanting and timeless

I love its calm, clarity and clearness

My eyes are drawn to its wonder and richness

Bridge

Chorus

  Chorus

FOR OUR SINS

I picked up my life, I stepped off the boat, I held my father’s hand

I looked at the sky, I looked at the ground, is this the Promised Land?

The gates were locked, the fences were high

The dogs were barking, our mouths they were dry

We came with a hope, came with a dream of redemption

In `44 it was selection

In `04 it was rejection

Chorus

Let’s get on our feet, don’t laugh or don’t cry

Let’s look at each other and ask ourselves why

Let’s pick up our glasses without fuss or delay

Let’s toast to the heavens and everyone say

For our sins (for our sins)

For our sins (for our sins)

For our sins (for our sins)

For our sins (for our sins)

Our bodies were searched, our fingerprints taken, is this the human way?

They put us in camps; they suspended our lives for the judgment day

The gates were locked, the fences were high

The dogs were barking, our mouths they were dry

We came with a hope, came with a dream of redemption

In `44 it was selection

In `04 it was rejection

Chorus

  Chorus

MONKEY ON MY BACK

My father told me not to plead

My mother told me not to bleed

My friends told me not to bend

My accountant told me not to spend

My doctor told me, “Take a rest”

My teacher told me, “Take a test”

My kids told me I must chill

My lawyer told me, “Make a will”

Chorus

Mess me up, stress me up, wake me up, shake me up

Hook me up, look me up, wind me up, bind me up

I need to have me cut some slack

Don’t need a monkey on my back

I need a hand that I can fold

If the truth be told

My neighbors told me not to drink

My wife told me not to think

My bookie told me, “Stake a bet”

My dentist told me not to fret

My barber told me, “Make a date”

My tailor told me, “Lose some weight”

My landlord told me, “Pay some rent”

My bank man told me, “Buy a tent”

Chorus

Don’t need a monkey on my back (Don’t need a monkey on my back)

Don’t need a monkey on my back (Don’t need a monkey on my back)

I need to have me cut some slack

Don’t need a monkey on my back

UNDER A FLAG

Who is my neighbor, who is my friend?

What are your values, what thought can you lend?

Are we so different, aren’t we the same?

We may be strangers, but only in name

Bridge

It’s shoulder to shoulder and side by side

There’s no where to run, there’s no where to hide

We’ve made our choices, thrown in our lot

Its backs to the wall, it’s all we’ve got

Chorus

We all serve under a flag

We all stand under a flag

Let’s block up our streets, let’s board up our farms

The drums are calling; it’s the beat to arms

Let’s be true to our word, there’s an oath we must swear

Let’s form up in tribes, there’s a cause to declare

Bridge

Chorus

Where are your borders, where are your lines?

Who draws your boundaries, who makes your designs?

We’re all in a circle, a circle of doubt

We fear the unknown, we fear going out

Bridge

Chorus

Bridge

Chorus

MY OWN CRUSADE

I light a candle, say a prayer

Dip my finger in the water there

Confess my sins, say a penance

Hang my head to face the sentence

The charged leveled, the crime neglect

The prime indictment, no respect

The court is silent, the judge austere

The path before me, my mission clear

Bridge

I’ll raise my sword, mark my ground

March to war to the trumpet sound

Face the conflict with banners flowing

Defy the odds with my colours showing

Chorus

I’ve lost a love but still I’m not dismayed

I’ll fight for love co’s it just can’t be unmade

I swore an oath of reversal to the gods of love

I vowed I’d win this war to the heavens above

To the heavens above

Maneuvers start, tactics planned

Orders issued from high command

Objectives sighted, the groundwork done

Campaign launched with the rising sun

Victory, the destination

Rekindled love, the motivation

To make amends and restoration

Real atonement, then salvation

Bridge

  Chorus

Chorus (Variation)

I’ve lost a love but still I’m not dismayed (I’m on my own crusade)

I’ll fight for love co’s it just can’t be unmade (I’m on my own crusade)

I swore an oath of reversal to the gods of love (I’m on my own crusade)

I vowed I’d win this war to the heavens above (I’m on my own crusade)

ALL BOW DOWN

Too many sins, too many lovers

Too many movers, too many mothers

Too many fools, too many takers

Too many rules, too many shakers

I met a man whose tongue was on fire

He spat out flames with the shriek of a liar

He had a hunger for want and for need

He bade me worship at the alter of greed

Too many tenders, too much confusion

Too many lenders, too much profusion

Too many games (too many games), too many winners (too many winners)

Too many names (too many names), too many sinners (too many sinners

I met a woman whose heart turned to ice

Her frozen soul, a given sacrifice

She wore a coat of avarice and pain

She bowed her head at the temple of gain

Too much time (too much time), too many chance (too many chances)

Too many poses (too many poses), too many stances (too many stances)

I met a monster with a terrible smile

His tales of wealth began to beguile

He spoke of lust and greed with conviction

Sat on a throne of lies and addiction

See their towers so high and so straight

See their lords so mighty, so great

Feel their power, they hold and they wield

Behold their grandeur, let us tremble and yield

All bow down (all bow down)

All bow down (all bow down)

All bow down (all bow down)

All bow down (all bow down)

PISCEAN DREAM

Two fishes swimming in a blue lagoon

Blue, violet, green under amethyst moon

Changing your form from rain into snow

Swimming so high, swimming so low

Piscean dream, are you what you seem?

Two fishes swimming and you swam my way

Two fishes swimming, then you swam away

Is your future in the stars?

You’ve forgotten who you are

Did you know you’ve been so far?

Two fishes swimming and you swam my way

Two fishes swimming and I got away

Jupiter and Neptune rule your days

Last of the twelve dictating your ways

Turning your dreams to reality

Learning of life’s mystery

Piscean dream, are you what you seem

Two fishes swimming and you swam my way

Two fishes swimming and I got away

See your zodiac sign

It will say we both align

It will say you should be mine

Two fishes swimming and you swam my way

Two fishes swimming and I got away

Two fishes swimming going different ways

Two fishes swimming to another day

WALK IN THE SUN

Some folks say they’re lucky

Some folks say they’re cursed

Some believe it’s all in the stars

Others think the worst

Can I see round corners, should I know my fate?

Should I see tomorrow or should I hope and wait

Chorus

I’m looking for a break in the clouds

Knowing that it’s fine

I’m looking for a heavenly beam

Looking for a sign

I’m heading down that tunnel

Heading for the light

Gonna take that walk in the sun

Things will be alright

Some believe in coincidence

Believe it’s meant to be

Put their trust in providence

Belief in destiny

I think I’ll make my own luck

I think I’ll point the way

Won’t think about what’s coming

I’ll take it day by day

Chorus

Refrain

I don’t believe in lucky charms

The bottom of tea cups

I’ve thrown away my rabbits foot

I think I’m on the up

  Chorus

THE PROMISED LAND

Amber trees, leaves of silver green

Emerald fields, the like of which you’ve never seen

Pearl white clouds, a turquoise sky

A silver wind that will change all things before your eyes

Chorus

Trust in me, take my hand

Believe in me and then you’ll see and understand

Walk beside me, hand in hand

Close your eyes and I’ll take you to the Promised Land

I’ll take you to the Promised Land

I’ll take you to the Promised Land

Prism waters, a sunlit beach

Wondrous beauty to still and nullify your speech

A calm ocean, a dreamy starlit night

An opal moon to transfix and hypnotize your sight

Chorus

A fiscal temple, diamonds clear and cold

A nouveaux chariot, a status shaped in gold

Acquired wealth to cherish and to hold

But I believe this is not the Promised Land

A rainbow forest, a silent ghostly day

Opaque rain to cleanse and wash your cares away

A brilliant sunset, a sparkling crystal stream

A crimson path to guide and show you to your dreams

  Chorus
