A review by Catherine Watson of the Express & Echo

DUFFLEBAGS CARRY IT OFF

Despite their unassuming name, this band was musically accomplished and went a little bit further than just playing covers by numbers. They put their own stamp on old and new rock classics, and played their own songs, too, with a combination of folk, rock, Byrds-style harmonies, and a very talented blues-influenced lead guitarist. There was a good mix of modern classics like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers ‘Otherside’ and Radiohead’s ‘High & Dry’- and old favourites including a stunning version of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb complete with magical guitar solos. Their own songs such as Hypocrites Ball would go down well with fans of political folk-rock. They’re definitely worth listening to.
